CAPTURING THE UNSCRIPTED

Professionally I am a management consultant, I've spent over a decade supporting our armed forces through forensic cost investigations, estimation, project controls, and over the last few years pushing the boundaries of applied generative AI within my industry. Whilst it affords some level of creativity it's not a conventional background story for a photographer.

I started on my journey in college studying fine art, I had free access as a boarding student in my evenings to their darkroom, studio and photoshop. I was never really much of a painter, but I had my camera and a vision. Following college I put photogaphy to one side through university and the start of my career, picking it up again when my son was born in 2015.

In terms of my approach whilst I am happy to step forward for the necessary formal portraits and group shots, I find the greatest value in looking for the unscripted moments, capturing the atmosphere without the distraction of a forced performance. Effective storytelling in photography requires a nuanced balance between the intimate details and emotions from close ups and the wider perspectives which lend context to them.​
